Jennifer Ramirez, MSW, SWLC
I am a Clinical Social Work Licensed Candidate (SWLC) with a Master of Social Work degree and Graduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution and Mediation from Colorado State University. I am bi-lingual and professionally proficient in English and Spanish.
I was born in Manhattan, New York but lived in Central Florida for much of my life. During my time in Florida, I found my passion for psychology after attending my first psychology class. I then pursued an education in the field and graduated from the University of Central Florida, with my bachelor’s degree in psychology. After graduation, I explored colorful Colorado and lived there for about 5 years. During my time in Colorado, I facilitated individual therapeutic sessions
with youth and adults in English and Spanish at a non-profit organization that offered therapeutic sessions at little to no cost. In session, I encouraged clients to be their most authentic selves and created a space where they felt heard and understood. While working with 5-10 year old clients I applied sand tray therapy, a combination of play therapy and art therapy, and cognitive behavioral play therapy. Sand tray therapy allowed clients to use expressive, hands-on techniques
to help them create a safe environment with toys and props. It specifically allowed them to recollect memories, process trauma, foster autonomy, and self-esteem. Cognitive behavioral play therapy allowed clients to cultivate empathy and respect for others, learn new social skills, and develop self-efficacy through play within therapy. While working with adults I applied attachment-based therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and strength-based therapy in sessions.
Attachment-based therapy encouraged clients to build secure and fulfilling relationships. Cognitive behavioral therapy equipped clients with everyday coping strategies that were easy to apply in real life situations and strength-based therapy allowed clients to focus on internal strengths rather than their failures or short comings. Moreover, I effectively planned, coordinated, and implemented adult centric, relevant, and purposeful activities for older adults in independent, assisted, and memory care living. While working with older adults, I became certified in cognitive stimulation therapy and facilitated it in individual and group settings. Since my spouse and I love the mountains so much we decided to explore Montana and the wonderful scenery and history it has to offer. We now live in this
beautiful state and are happy to call it home. When I am not in session, I love to try out new restaurants, go on walks with our dogs, and enjoy a good movie.
